Under 30 days creating willow and making it in SL

Just for our blog I took a risk ..well not really.I'm sure all of us can admit to an alt or two or maybe even a dozen but don't worry we know you're out there and trust me we don't judge. 

Anyway I wanted to see what it was like starting out 6 years later. 

What are the new avatars like? How do people treat you ? What can you really do in SL now a days on a budget or is it likely better to just invest your hard earned real life money into the game.

I'm not sure how I want to release this story just n yet.  You may end up following my 30 days in segments or in one sitting. I suppose we will all see together.

Now seeing as this was an alt started strictly for this blog I have to start off by saying the starter avatar has come an extremely long way from where it began and has gone strides just in the 6 years or so since I've made an avatar. I searched my folders far and wide and unfortunately I think my inner ego took over as it seems I don't have any photos showing what we looked like to compare now and then too.. 

but YaaY !! No more are the days of play-dough like skin and helmet hair!  .

Getting started is simple go to secondlife.com and click Join Now. You need a valid email and you need to read and sign the ToS. Pick your avatar and good luck with your name and tada your in world.

You will start in the world of Second-life in a tutorial zone, if you're new and have never played take a look around read and try out the suggestions familiarize yourself with the controls before you just go charging through the world.

Trust me you will want to learn how to walk with out bumping into everyone you meet. You'd be surprised how many people inside a game world dis like being pumped and pushed it's the easy way to become the most disliked or quickest way to become de-rendered by everyone around you. Emotions can run high in Second-life just like they do in real life. People come to second-life to escape and enjoy and even relax and unwind after the hardships of their Real lives.

Imagine you don't like being shoved around out on the real world streets or in a venue ; its the same in this game life as well.

Now as I was saying take your tutorial look around follow the path and find your way into the world. You should find yourself starting out on Orientation Island and end up in Welcome Area on Mainland. 

there are a few shops around that you are welcome to pick up free items at however these are of the most basic vanilla items you can get with in sl really. 

Now me I recommend you click the link below if you are new to the world of sl and if you're not but you don't want to spend a lot of time looking for a way to get started or spend a bit of RL monies on your avi this link will take you pretty much everywhere you need to go to pick up free things in the world if you are under 30 days.

These items include full body packs with hair,shapes,skins and even ao's and outfits. Not every package will have these but there will be some useful things. 

Pop around use the launcher app to teleport from shop to shop join groups that are free and enjoy finding your new look.  

I have made it in world for (1 week old; 12 days) my rez date was : 10/13/2016

I have Not spent a single L on my look and have not added any L to my account. 

I started with nothing and in that time by hopping around on the 30 day list and hitting up a few spots (I had the luck to know about because of my life on LaaLaa which i have added those groups and links below.) I have found my way to many a free things and enjoyed many a lucky chair and letter boards and midnight mania. 

And I must thank every designer who takes the time to create all these good products and shares them with us through groups and lucky boards and other fun things such as group gifts. 

* Now yes you might notice that the look of my avatar has already started to change throughout these photos. I got started right away playing with objects and items i picked up and unpacked as quickly as i could just to see what was there. 

Once you have all your gifts and item objects ( you will find everything in your inventory folder. with in that folder there will be many more) right click your item/object (click Add) most items will be clickable and will prompt you to open them and you will receive a pop up which asks you to accept the item. Do so!

Then detach the first object from yourself right click same object item again and delete. You will have the open wear able product with in your inventory.. You do the same as you did to open it. 

!! * If you can not add the item or you get a giant add board looking box attached to your avatar immediately detach this from yourself then from your inventory left click and drag to the ground. right click the item on the ground and click OPEN , when the menu pops up it should reveal the items inside these may look like little yellow boxes.. click copy to your inventory. 

If you get a pop up message saying you have chosen to copy items that are not copy able.. would you like to continue.. ( or something to that effect if you're on a 3rd party viewer will review those later) If the menu pop up is there then click Yes .. the point is you want to take the items from the box. 

Now that you have removed your items, you will have folders that you can open and see they are outfits or shapes or skins .. 

Right click the item and then add. 

Adding is kinda essential as when you click wear you may replace one item you meant to keep on with another you are telling it to wear.. but by adding an item 2 or more items maybe able to share the same spot. Remember in your tutorial that you should have taken it will have shown you how to edit an object and adjust an item attached to your avatar if not and you were lazy or have just forgotten how to there are some YouTube links you may find helpful below.

Edit quick tips

 I was in hopes to have an Role Play avatar but  as the cost of good quality role play skins and hud's and just well anything perhaps associated with a RP seems to be in the you'll need to pay to play category and fair enough so it probably should be an investment and not just a time passing thing. Lots of hard work and back story go into lots of the RP areas and seeing as I do enjoy that kind of thing I do for see that willow still may just find her way there. 

But right now that's not exactly my aim with this;  so looks like that's something for later.

Now since i'm not going to be getting into the role play seen right away as i had kinda hopped lets take a look at what system layers look like and a new skin. 

Right off the bat you'll see system feet and shoes/ shoe shapes.. just generally look well;poorly,is the kindest word I can currently think of.

The skin is a very loverly rather detailed. 

I popped around a few more times as the above pictures did show I'm sure a few of you may have noticed that my look immediately started changing. And a few may have even taken read to my little note above. 
I do apologize that I didn't think out my strategy for writing this up, and it ended up I did just dive right in and start enjoying making a new avatar. 

And this is me now  (1 week old; 12 days) I haven't done much else. I am and have found a skin and some very nice gift hairs that allow me to start working on the look for a RP avi after all. 

I decided I couldn't take it any more and had to find a way to earn linden. It was the feet. I couldn't stand the feet and the shoes.. ughh.. so I hit my search button simply typed in Earn Linden and the pages just opened up to me.

I ended up at a fishing spot that ended up leading me to a linden hunt and with in the first few coin clicks I had won a lottery earning myself a hole 2 L

(which all adds up and you then collect at a cash point when you are done hunting ) after a bit of wondering  

I found my way to a crystal hunt where as I found crystals and answered simple little maths style questions I was earning more Lindens$L .. 

With-in 30 minutes of hunting I cashed out with 12L

I then mad my way to the Second-life Market place and picked up the first pair of decent 1L shoes I could find. And At least I can walk around feeling a little bit better. My hands are still kinda funky looking but at least my shoes are made for walking ;P

there a simple old style shoe non slink. the foot is built into the shoe and has a color hud and tint change to match your skin

I'm now 2 weeks old. I haven't been able to take my look much further though I have earned a few more L but still no where near enough to get anything further to enhance my look. I have purchased 3 system make-ups for 1L and they do add some characterization but I do think I may have to take that step and add money or wait it out until my avi is 30days and put her to work.

I have done pretty much as much as I can with my 30 days. for free.
I found a way to earn L before 30days old (Secondlife gold hunt group) which you have to be 30days to work in SL.
skin : alterego rosario (group free to join)
Dress:.:Vitrimi:. Cape Dress Black (free dove)
Shoes: **Ydea sandle black (free dove)
Hair: Little bones group gift (100 to join group earned gold hunting)

There really was a lot of good stuff at free dove. very nice mesh outfits, jewelry , makeup and even Slink shoes.  

I'm still in system hands and using a very old pair of mesh shoes with feet attached. comes with skin hud and color shoe and toe polish. 



You definitely have to stand out either by look or personality.Wall flowers can be okay but don't expect to much. Stand out say hello its a simple word and can really go a long way..
I have made new friends some who I have explained exactly what i was doing with this blog and a few others who I have enjoyed having a little mystery with. No nothing naughty mind you all of those kind of SL things well that could be another blog later lol. 

It really has been fun doing this but I think I have to admit with were SL has come over the years You kinda do have to earn a little something or add a little RL something to make it work if ya want the look in this life. 
However that isn't for everyone and to those of you still living like noobies and enjoying your second life rock on keep having fun we still love ya . 
I will post a few updates as time goes on but I think I'm going to end this here.
